Meet Your Therapist
I'm Ludivina Acevedo (she/her), but you can call me Ludi.
I identify as a wounded healer, dedicated to helping others feel seen, included, and valued. I strive to connect with my clients compassionately and work collaboratively throughout the counseling process.
I hold a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Abilene Christian University and a Bachelor’s in Development and Family Studies from the University of North Texas where my passion for working with families grew. My therapy journey began with an internship at a Christian group where I gained experience working with children, teens, couples, and families. I also worked as a Life Coach, guiding young people in developing life skills and adjusting to college.
With over 15 years of experience in various youth-focused roles, I know that every child and teen is unique and deserves personalized care. I aim to make therapy engaging and relatable, ensuring it connects with each individual.
Diagnosed with ADHD in my early thirties, I’ve learned to embrace my neurotype and live authentically. This personal journey allows me to bring a unique perspective to my therapy practice, helping clients understand and accept themselves.
As a Latinx therapist fluent in Spanish, I bring a culturally informed perspective to my work. I understand the importance of cultural nuances and can provide therapy that resonates with diverse backgrounds.
I’m committed to inclusivity and creating a safe, welcoming space where everyone feels valued and supported.
Outside of therapy, I love attending concerts, making friendship bracelets, reading, exploring new coffee shops, enjoying Disney magic, and traveling.
Understanding My Therapy Practice
-
Therapeutic Philosophy
My therapeutic philosophy revolves around adopting a person-centered and strengths-based approach. By collaborating with you, we work together to find what is best for your unique journey. While I have the tools to guide you, you are ultimately the expert in your own life. My style is warm, curious, engaging, and creative. I strive to connect with my clients as one human being to another, welcoming and connecting through humor and authenticity.
As a neurodivergent-affirming therapist, I view neurodivergence—like ADHD, Autism, and other neurological differences—as a natural part of who you are, not a flaw to fix. My approach focuses on creating a compassionate, non-judgmental space that values your unique experiences. I respect your personal journey, use affirming language, and avoid neurotypical biases. My goal is to support you in building a meaningful and joyful life based on your needs and values, while addressing any challenges you face.
-
Therapeutic Approach
I bring a comprehensive training in various evidence-based approaches and a systemic perspective that recognizes how every aspect of your life is interconnected. My approach integrates relational therapy with Collaborative, Client-Centered, and Systemic Therapy, all viewed through a trauma-informed lens.
Focusing on emotional safety, I emphasize sensory and emotional regulation through understanding the nervous system.
When requested, I use techniques from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and adapt them to best fit your unique needs and preferences.
I believe psychoeducation is a vital therapy component, as it equips clients with knowledge from evidence-based research and insights from lived experiences. By sharing resources and information, I aim to support & empower you to advocate for yourself effectively.
-
Therapy in Action
Through talk therapy, mindfulness, and understanding your nervous system, we will increase self-awareness, decrease trauma responses, and develop new boundaries and ways of expressing your authentic self.
As a neurodivergent myself, I welcome and encourage unmasking in the therapy room. I do not require eye contact for clients. I provide fidgets, weighted blankets, coloring books, and other items for clients to use while we engage in talk therapy.
In practice, I empower you to embrace your authentic self, find joy, and cultivate meaning. We’ll use your interests—whether it’s through activities, arts and crafts, music, video games or other methods—to build connections and support emotional well-being. By integrating your passions into our sessions, we create a space for self-regulation and develop strategies to navigate life’s challenges with confidence.
-
Spiritual Integration
As a therapist trained with a Christian lens, I offer a supportive space where you can explore your beliefs and incorporate spiritual practices like prayer if you desire. This approach respects your autonomy; I do not impose my beliefs on you. I believe it’s crucial for teenagers to have autonomy and a safe place to explore their identities and beliefs without judgment. My role is to support you in your journey, not to tell you what to do.
If you choose to include faith in therapy, we can also explore how you perceive God's love, fostering a deeper understanding of your spiritual journey. This also provides a safe space to address topics like deconstruction, purity culture, shame, the intersections of faith with sexual and gender identity and religious trauma with sensitivity and compassion.
I welcome all faiths and ensure a compassionate, inclusive environment for everyone.
